Discussion of the use of electronic devices in the match room

For those who didn't make it to the AGM, you should be aware that we had some discussion on the changes concerning electronic devices such as mobile 'phones that were introduced into the FIDE Laws from 1st July this year.

Basically, FIDE have become increasingly concerned over the risk of using such devices for cheating, so they now ban them from even being brought into the playing venue. Hence, they no longer make any reference to the consequences of them emitting any sound.

This would seem totally impractical for a league like ours, so it was agreed that we would stick with the mobile 'phones Rule that existed prior to the latest FIDE changes. Namely, if your 'phone or similar device emits any noise, your opponent may claim the game, but you won't be taken outside and shot simply for having it in your pocket.
