Congratulations to Worthing who have won the MSCL Handicap Cup for the first time in their history.

On the way to the final they played Haywards Heath in the quarter-final and Uckfield in the semis. In the final they met Sussex University and came out victorious by 4½ - ½ to complete an impressive set of results of Won 10 Drawn 3 and a Loss of just 2 games.

It has been interesting this year to see how teams have handled the handicap system which can be severe if you get it wrong and find you must win 4½ - ½ or better to survive.

The competition is a bit like paper, rock, scissors where team captains who have a choice of players can go for a low rated, medium rated or high rated team.

Last season Woodpushers 2 were successful playing the low card so this season as Crowborough captain I tried to play the even lower card against them but came badly unstuck.

This year both Sussex University and Worthing have been successful in playing the old favourite of high rated on top boards and low rated on bottom boards.

Thank you to all the teams who competed and have made this competition once again a success and enjoyable to play in.

The final was played on the 4th March 2019 with Sussex University playing at home.
