As some of you know, I volunteered for the task at the recent SCCA AGM of being the Tournament Controller for these two competitions for the 2018/-19 season, after a spell in abeyance.
I would now like to invite entries for both of the competitions, from all Sussex clubs.
The McArthur Cup is the premier competition open to all Sussex clubs, and has a history going back for 130 years, while the Paul Watson Trophy is a more recent competition, played in memory of a much-loved stalwart of Sussex chess, and inspiration for many young players to take up the game.
The McArthur Cup is played over 6 boards, with no grading restriction, while the Paul Watson Trophy is played over 4 boards, with an average grade of no more than 150. Each competition is a knock-out, but see the respective competition rules for more details. I have undertaken a brief exercise to update the rules for both competitions and these are attached (with thanks to input from the select few contacted for their views - given the need to get the competition moving, I felt it impractical to undertake a wide-ranging review).
If your club would like to enter either or both of these competitions, please send me your entry by e:mail or post by 7th November. Fees are £8 for the McArthur Cup and £6 for the Paul Watson Trophy).
